The Brief

Our clients sought to create a modern, functional, and stylish family home in Berlin’s Oliver Platz, blending contemporary elegance with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The goal was to maximise space, enhance natural light, and integrate thoughtful storage solutions while maintaining a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing design. A key priority was to ensure that the home catered to the needs of a growing family—offering comfort, practicality, and moments of understated luxury.

Our approach

To bring this vision to life, we embraced a Scandinavian-inspired design ethos, incorporating soft neutral tones, natural textures, and clean architectural lines. The palette was carefully selected to create a calming environment, with warm wood tones and earthy hues adding depth and warmth.

A key part of this project was the use of our 3D design services, particularly for the master bedroom, where the client wanted to visualise how different textures, materials, and design elements would interact in the space. By creating high-visual 3D renders, we were able to refine the selection of the wooden slatted headboard, sage-green accent wall, and bespoke storage solutions, ensuring a cohesive and harmonious final look.

Beyond aesthetics, we prioritised bespoke storage solutions to maintain a clutter-free space, ensuring that every design choice was both beautiful and functional. Multi-purpose furniture and flexible layouts were introduced to accommodate the evolving needs of family life, while a mix of soft lighting and natural materials enhanced the overall ambiance.

Each room was designed with a balance of sophistication and everyday usability, ensuring the home felt both refined and deeply personal to the family’s lifestyle.

The Oliver Platz Family Home by Studio Akiva is a thoughtful expression of contemporary family living, where Scandinavian simplicity is softened through warmth, texture, and everyday practicality. Designed for a young Berlin-based family, the project strikes a careful balance between refined aesthetics and the evolving needs of a lived-in home.

At its foundation lies a calm, neutral palette enriched with natural materials, soft oak finishes, muted greens, and tactile fabrics—creating an environment that feels both modern and inviting. Clean architectural lines are gently offset by layered textiles, considered lighting, and carefully curated furnishings, resulting in a space that feels effortless yet composed.

The open-plan living and dining area forms the heart of the home, designed to support both social interaction and quiet moments. A strong sense of flow connects each zone, while subtle variations in texture and lighting help define spaces without interrupting visual continuity. Natural light plays a key role, enhancing the sense of openness and reinforcing the home’s calm, airy character.

In the more private areas, the design adopts a softer, more intimate tone. The master bedroom is conceived as a tranquil retreat, where muted colour contrasts and bespoke joinery introduce depth without overwhelming the space. Children’s rooms bring in a lighter, more playful layer, incorporating adaptable furniture, soft shapes, and thoughtful storage solutions that respond to changing needs over time.

Throughout the home, bespoke storage and multi-functional elements are seamlessly integrated, ensuring that practicality never compromises the overall aesthetic. Every detail is considered, contributing to a cohesive design language that supports daily life while maintaining a sense of quiet sophistication.

Ultimately, the project reflects a modern, human-centred approach to interior design, one that prioritises comfort, clarity, and longevity. It is a home designed not just to be seen, but to be lived in.
